More than 200 guests, including Congressman Michael Honda, D-San Jose, Milpitas Mayor Jose Esteves, Milpitas Police Chief Dennis Graham, Milpitas Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant and other political, religious and community leaders, joined members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Silicon Valley chapter Saturday at the Bait ul Baseer Mosque in Milpitas for its annual Iftar Dinner.
There was a brief program when members introduced all attendees to Ramadhan, which commenced Aug. 1 this year, a holy month of fasting, spiritual renewal and purification for Muslims. During that time Muslims around the world abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset and increase their focus on worship, charity and human welfare for the month.
At sunset, the Muslim call for prayer was given and guests joined members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in breaking their fast by partaking in the dinner.
