USA: Letter | Extremism is never welcome in my faith

One should not label the whole community for the actions of a few extremists. And nobody can deny the existence of extreme or radical elements in every religion.

Dear Editor:

I watched a special at CNN "Unwelcome: Muslim Next Door" couple of days ago.

Being a muslim myself, I found the program comforting and alarming at the same time. I think media has a very critical role to play on topics like these so the treatment of this particular program seemed very unbiased. I applaud the Imam for standing up for his rights and also for the locals who are opposed to the construction of the mosque. Each group has their right to tell the govt. how they feel but breaking the laws and using violence is not acceptable.

The prosecutor in the hearing was making the case against Islam that seemed inappropriate. Many of his comments about my faith were upsetting and full of ignorance. United States has a big muslim community living in peace among people of other faiths. One should not label the whole community for the actions of a few extremists. And nobody can deny the existence of extreme or radical elements in every religion.

Extremism is never welcome in my faith so I do not believe extremists to be portraying the right image of Islam. As a member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, we stand by our Motto: Love for all, Hatred for None and hope every body is able to do the same, here in the U.S and all over the world.
